Consistent
with the overall goals and objectives of the school, students helped plan
school-wide activities and were given opportunities to review school policies
and regulations. Student input was presented by the school student council,
which consisted of elected representatives from each of the high school
classes. Members of the 1958 Student Council consisted of Billy Askew, Frances Heard, Earnestine
Huffman, Theodore Shumpert, Roy D. Terry, Willie George Ferrell, Earolyn
Heard, Clara Jane Ford, Peggy Magby, Juline Johnson, Carolyn Heard, and Frank
Sims. Election to the Council was a sign of broad recognition by fellow
students and instructors and was usually reserved for students who had
leadership skills and were high achievers. Katherine Robinson, who taught at
RCTS for a brief time, was the faculty sponsor for the 1958 student
council.
This photo was taken in the school's auditorium. The room also served as a makeshift basketball arena until a gymnasium was built in the late 1950s. It was also the school's lunch room.
